Well since we have personally been in your position with regards to choosing a vessel power source, more than once, we thought that we would share what we have learned along with some associated opinions and why we personally choose Mercury or Mariner Power sources. First let us say that the motor being in fresh or salt water is an important factor to consider as well as parts availability, power requirements and intended use. All things considered we would choose a Mercury or Mariner for any saltwater use for the corrosive resistance that they offer. This would add a significant amount of time to the life of the motor. We will add some corrosive resistance information below to explain this further.
Now being in Alaska with over a million lakes and thousands of miles of rivers, there is also a lot of fresh water use with or without occasional salt water use. Because of logistics, with parts and labor in Alaska, we would choose an Evinrude or Yamaha to run rivers and lakes because of the lack of severe corrosion problems and better parts availability. Remember will do our best to provide you with a power source that makes you happy with your boat.
